Music

Juanita has played various venues, private/corporate functions, and festivals up and down Australia’s East Coast in a number of different bands and ensembles. She began her performance career as a jazz singer and pianist in Sydney in 1991 before moving to Canberra in 1997.

Here, her music developed further, playing in a number of different bands that incorporated blues and soul, as well as roots-inspired country, folk, and bluegrass. Juanita has been an active member of the Canberra Blues Society since it was formed in 1998.

In 2007, with her newfound love for the piano accordion, a great passion for dancing, and her continuing love affair with roots-inspired music, Juanita decided to form a dance band that celebrated the melting pot of music from Louisiana. Hence, Queen Juanita and the Zydeco Cowboys was born. The infectious beats of swing, jump blues, zydeco, reggae, and rockabilly have had many a crowd young and old up on their feet unable to help themselves!

Being a dancer herself, Juanita knows personally what her dancers like: “I love your band!”. “Girl you can swing the crap out of those tunes!” “you have such a beautiful voice” are some of the comments Queen Juanita has received from fans over the years.

In 2012, Queen Juanita released the album Dancehall Jamboree which is available to buy on the iTunes Store and CD Baby.
